This is a condemnation suit brought by the State of Texas and County of Dallas against the appellants Edward L. Hays and wife, Ellese Martin Hays, for the taking on June 12, 1959 of three parcels of land totaling approximately 2.2 acres with improvements, for the widening of U.S. Highway 175. The landowners appealed from a judgment awarding to them the sum of $17,250, entered by the County Court of Dallas County at Law No. 1 on the answers of the jury to the usual "Carpenter Case" special issues. State v. Carpenter, 126 Tex. 604, 89 S.W.2d 194, rehg overruled 89 S.W.2d 979.
